Acrobatics of the Heart, 2019

Led by Wendell Beavers, Stephen Wangh, Lizi WattNora Woolley, this two-week intensive integrates two groundbreaking performance trainings – Grotowski and Viewpoints – into Boundless Improvisation, the holistic ensemble technique that includes Presence, Voice, Body, and Singing.

The workshop is set in a beautiful country setting and is open to students who are new to this work as well as those with extensive prior experience. There will be 9 hours of training per day, ensemble meals, outdoor trainings, and evening work sessions.

Practices include:

  • Grotowski’s physical exercises: “Corporels” and “Plastiques”
  • Wendell Beavers’ Developmental Technique ™
  • Breath and voice work
  • Image work
  • Viewpoints and presence work
  • Meditation-into-action training
  • Boundless Improvisation

Seminars will include such topics as:

  • Balancing effort and non-effort, safety and risk, profundity and fun
  • How one can integrate this body-based work into both experimental and traditional performance
  • Relationship of performance to consciousness, awareness.

Faculty

Location

The 2019 workshop is taking place at Earthdance, an artist-run center located in the Berkshire hills of Western Massachusetts. It features: 125 acres of land, on-site accommodations, delicious meals, open and beautiful studio spaces, a wood-fired sauna, swimming pond and hiking trails.

Food and Accommodations

All meals are included in the workshop tuition and prepared by Earthdance’s Chef and Kitchen Staff. The primarily vegetarian menu will be made whenever possible from local and organic sources, including produce from their own very large garden. Food allergies and specialty diets can be accommodated.

Dormitory-style shared group accommodations are included in the tuition. For students who would like a more private sleeping space there are optional camping grounds.

Participants will be asked to assist with meal clean-up in rotation (2-3 times per week) and a one-hour space clean each week.

Tuition

$2,000 for the full twelve-days of training, food and lodging.

Special early bird discount: 10% discount for all applications fully paid before May 1st.
